podcast 008: Pan-Pot - Day and Night
In conjunction with their recent release for mobilee Confronted (mobilee054), Pan-Pot have whipped up a special two-part edition of the podcast. The mix—divided into two sections aptly named “Day” and “Night”—features tracks from the likes of Lee Curtiss, Mark Broom, Joris Voorn, Chelonis R. Jones, DJ T and, of course, Pan-Pot themselves.

Size: 87.9 MB

balErik, Erik Molthe, is one of the leading DJs in the Oslo underground house music scene. He started DJing in 2001 and has been doing regular nights around Oslo since then. One of balEriks nights, Dirty Grooves, got nominated best club night of the year 2 years in a row in an online clubbing magazine as well as being nominated ‘DJ of the year’ by same magazine 3 times. He is on his 5th year residency at club Sikamikanico, the longest running house club in Oslo, which is going onto its 11th year in 2009.

balErik has also been running Kikki boat parties in Oslo. Inspired by the annual Tiki boat parties during.WMC in Miami which SOS always headline, balErik is recreating these memorable boat parties which cruise along the beautiful Oslo fjord. Last year Rowan Blades and balErik teamed up for a five hour back to back season and this year his Discoteca mate Tom Morgan will be taking over the decks on the Ms. Bjorvika along with balErik and the boat of full of eager party goers. For more information on this event please visit http://www.kikkiboat.com/
balErik has played with some of the best DJs in the world including Desyn Masiello, Omid16B, Demi, Danny Howells, Rowan Blades, Luke Fair, Nic Fanciulli, Audiofly, Yousef to name a few. balErik’s blend of deep house and driving techno music has taken him to gigs around the world in places such as London, Russia, Poland, Croatia, San Francisco, Miami, Bulgaria, Finland, Sweden and Latvia.

balErik dedicates all his spare time to his musical passion. Whether he is making music, hunting for tunes, promoting for his next party, doing edits or special remixes music is always on his mind. His dedication has gained him support from the likes of Digweed, Deep Dish, Behrouz and Nic Fanciulli and Desyn Masiello, who gave him a position as A&R for his Alternative Route record label because of his keen ear for finding amazing new tracks.

In 2007 balErik set up a new digital label, Discoteca Music, with his partners Dana Bergquist, Tom Morgan, Luke Fair and Somnus corp. The label has numerous successful releases including two that are included on Renaissance and Global Underground compilations. As Discoteca Music grows in popularity with each EP released, balErik is making sure this momentum keeps growing by finding the artists of today who are making the music of tomorrow. Snubbcast 17 - Patrick Bateman

Snubbcast
Episode 17 - Patrick Bateman
Date: 25 July 2009
Duration: 1:02:22 (85,8)

Yeah, we know, you might have given more notice to the blood and gore of the character from the Bret Easton Ellis novel, but one things for sure: That Patrick Bateman knew how to party and its the same with this one.

Already a household name when the Danish club scene exploded in the late nineties, Kenneth Broxgaard aka. DJ Patrick Bateman has been a key party player for almost two decades. He’s a prime son of a Danish techno/house scene that just keeps on getting better and better and he knows all the artistic effects down to the last beat, from vicious minimalism over luscious deep tech-house.

He started spinning records in the early nineties with the early boy love for Inner City, Italian house and rave music and in the years that followed Patrick Bateman has covered huge amounts of space in an ever curious exploration of electronic party music.

Musically, Detroit techno and Chicago house made a huge impact on Patrick Bateman in 95 and so did the looping mono techno from Sweden and the UK a few years later. But minimal techno and house have always taken up major parts of Batemans all-embracing record shelves. Since 99/00, he has been spinning minimal techno and house exclusively German style and with the odd twist of deep house and old school classics thrown in for good measure.

The last 7-8 years, Patrick Bateman has really made his mark. Touring everywhere in Denmark and many venues in Europe, Batemans remarkably energetic, spot free sets have presented the minimal techno/house vibe to an audience thats moved from curious to responsive to exhilarated.

In 2004, Bateman started the label Tic Tac Toe Records. The label is focusing on minimal house and techno, primarily from all the Danish talents, but also with international acts. The first 25 releases are already out, and have been played and charted by all the big DJs and the name Tic Tac Toe has been getting a lot of attention internationally. In Denmark it has led to an award as best label in 2007 and a nomination for best label in 2008. In 2007 Connect Four saw the light. This is the sister label to TTT focusing on deeper sounds.

Bateman has also started producing music, and he is follows his DJ trademark very closely and you can be sure you will hear a lot more from him during the coming years on this front too.

In 2008 Bateman won the award as best upfront DJ of the year at Danish DJ Awards, showing that he is still on forefront of things even after 14-15 years of DJing.

The guy may not be guzzling blood like his alter ego, but hes a superb DJ.

RA.165 Drums Of Death

RA.165 Drums Of Death
Scottish producer Drums Of Death demonstrates the art of noise on this week's RA podcast.

Think Scottish electronica and what comes to mind? The chart bothering exploits of minor celebrity Calvin Harris? The sample-heavy electro house of "will-he-ever-release-a-second-album" Mylo? How about the early electronic moments and twee vocal stylings of Belle & Sebastian? Colin Bailey, AKA Drums of Death, is the snarling antithesis of all of those that have come before him: intense, raucous and a touch confrontational, Bailey has been an oft-discussed force for the last 12 months now, thanks to his frenetic live shows, chumminess with electro trash queen Peaches and, of course, the "voodoo-zombie" persona he adopts every time he climbs on stage.

Hailing from Oban, a small fishing village on the west coast of Scotland, Bailey promptly upped sticks and headed to Glasgow during his late teens. It was in his twenties, and time in Glasgow, that Bailey’s thirst for live performance was quenched through an involvement in hardcore and punk bands, before eventually turning his hand to solo electronic experiments, and moving to London.

Bailey aligned himself with the Berlin-based Greco-Roman imprint late last year who released the aptly titled Drums of Death Steps Into the Ring EP which will be followed by a full-length album though the label at the beginning of next year. It has been in the live arena, though, where Bailey has caused the most carnage; touring with Hot Chip and Peaches and appearing at a multitude of dingy low-ceilinged basements and festivals. Speaking which, Bailey plays the Bloggers Delight at Field Day this Saturday which will be the next opportunity to catch his rambunctious live show. For his RA podcast, Bailey throws together a heady concoction of crunchy electro and full-bodied techno into the blender; garnished with warped sample snippets and plenty of wtf!? moments, which would be best enjoyed with a can of Iron Bru at the Sunday dinner table. That's our take at least.

Talking Shopcast with Ostgut Ton

LTW
Welcome to the latest edition of our series of interviews and mixes affectionately titled Talking Shopcasts. The majority of media and fan attention gets showered on the artists who create the music we love to listen to/DJ with/dance to, and for good reasons. But without the hard work, keen ears and business savvy of label staff, we’d be stuck only streaming tracks on their websites. For our fifth volume, we focus on arguably Berlin’s hottest label, Ostgut Ton. It’s difficult to describe the label’s meteoric rise to the top of the pile without lapsing into hyperbole, as it evolved rapidly from merely Berghain/Panorama Bar’s label wing to a dominant force in underground dance music in fewer than four years. In that short time, Ostgut Ton has helped make stars of Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Cassy, Shed, Prosumer & Murat Tepeli, and almost anyone else who earns one of its coveted catalog numbers. Each must-purchase release pushes house and techno forward in a way few labels can claim without letting the success go their heads. With that in mind, we picked label manager (and LWE podcast alumnus) Nick Höppner’s brain about the label’s sound, its future, and even a tip for getting past Berghain’s bouncers. In case that’s not enough, we’ve also procured an exclusive and incredibly deep mix from Panorama Bar resident, Steffi.

For this podcast # 69 (interpret that as you want), I wanted to change their approach compared to previous 2 were recorded in the evening. This time it was made in an apartment, not at me because my neighbors too chiantes (hello if you see me!) Do not tolerate more than 5mn boum boum in a row. So the affable Clément Meyer who hosted me the time to an hour mix. I can not thank mixer that sizzles sometimes a hair. Not serious. It adds in street credibility to this mix that I see as a condensed set of 4/5h. I put a little all styles / moods that I like, however, keeping consistency in the groove.

(BSOG 0002) Formula - The Overcast Project

Formula - The Overcast Project
Label: BlocSonic
Catalog#: BSOG0002
Format: File, MP3, FLAC
Released: July 2009
Style: Hip Hop

Ladies and gents, allow me to introduce to you the latest member of the blocSonic family, Formula. A producer extraordinaire hailing from London. This here is his premiere solo release and our second original. If you’ve been following our netBloc series for a while, you’ve most-likely heard “Is It Too Late For Us All?” from the collaborative project that he was part of (along with Boston’s own Tha Silent Partner), MUTE. It was featured on “netBloc Vol. 15: this album won’t eat your gas money”. Welcome him back with what I’m quite confident you’ll think is one fantastic release. Hip-Hop on another plain… from another perspective… but real boom bap hip-hop none-the-less. From the introduction “Ebony Shards”… to “X Man”, there’s not a boring or weak moment to be found.
To me “The Overcast Project” feels like the perfect follow-up to Just Plain Ant’s “Dig Deep”. Formula seems to share a similar desire to expand the definition of “hip-hop”. With Formula at it’s core and a talented group of musicians and emcees, Overcast gels into a superbly cohesive unit (much like Ant’s release before it). There IS a “Formula sound” and each of the guest musicians and emcees lend their distinctive touches in such a way as to make the unit stronger.
Sit back and get ready for the journey… the sky may be overcast, but no rain is in the forecast… so enjoy the journey!
Thanks to Formula for allowing blocSonic to handle the release of this gem!
As always, thanks to you for visiting blocSonic and listening to our releases… remember… share this with friends, enemies, parents, siblings, politicians, zombies and aliens… oh… and the rain gods

After being active for a half a year and putting out so much good Dubstep within those six months. We have been receiving and scouting so many tunes it was only right for us to build the second part to our three part series "The Vertical Lion" It was compiled over 3 of those 6 and was a treat to work with so many talented individuals in securing their spot on this mammoth release.

The LP may have some bits that you may have heard before and some bits that are completely unique to Twenty/Twelve. We are confident that this project is one our coolest releases and further drives the point home that we are NOT fucking 'round with dropping gems on you. In terms of overall sound of the project , You may become confused as you preview the LP as we selected the most diverse tracks we could to match the sound of the Twenty/Twelve Imprint. That world which he has created and creates, perfects for improvement, bewitches and urges on not only it, but also us, those who faces this world …
For the short existence on the big scene, has managed to prove as one of young talented and perspective DJs for today. Its mixes it not simply selection of favourite and actual tracks for today, is the whole scale of various colours, mood shades from what the listener has feeling from impetuous grief to a progressive drive. Unique, partly with a philosophical sight the selection of tracks forces to plunge into the most remote corners as a result to feel all spectrum of a dance music. As the musician and di, he knows what wishes to inform to a wide audience.
Now completely accented the activity on a writing of own qualitative sound. Perspective and safe tours across Russia, neighbouring countries, are not small achievement in sphere of his activity. The person in whom the courageous thinking is inherent, not wishing to recognize various social aspects which at times bear uncertainty and factors deforming an everyday life. Its emotionality develops only with the assistance of a large quantity of public, paternal the power reads off scale. In it the uncontrollable aspiration to be the focus of attention, shine, submit is shown and even to plunge into a panic.
Den - the bright individualist. Accurately generated scenic image of the actor, bright, expressive - one of important aspects in its success. Does not recognise public morals, does not wish to follow the rules established in social group. Its emotional world can have harmonious development only under condition of a good environment, and it at it is by definition.

«2methylBulbe1ol is the chemical alias of french producer Nicolas Druoton, based out of Dijon, northeastern France which is the historical capital of Burgundy. Nicolas produces some very nice IDM of the Industrial type, very melodic, solid beats and rough and dirty edges. 'Quelques Siècles d'Insomnie' is therefore a short but juicy EP and will appeal to all IDM fans out there.

The artwork is also amazing and you can confirm everything when you purchase the limited Vinyl edition of this EP. Nicolas has some copies for the hardcore fans. Check out his website's shop page.» - Pedro Leitão

(psnet 015) Trinity & Beyond - Beyond Musique

Trinity & Beyond - Beyond Musique
Label: Pinksilver Net
Catalog#: psnet015
Format: 3 x File, MP3, 320
Country: Australia
Released: 27 Jul 2009
Genre: Electronic
Style: Techno, Tech House, Minimal
Artwork by Kruz Knezevic

Pinksilver Net is over the moon to welcome fresh Australian talent to their growing and well respected roster of creative & vibrant artists in the form Sydney duo Trinity & Beyond.

Trinity & Beyond is a collaboration between DJ Trinity & producer J. Trinity has been at the forefront of Australia’s underground house & techno scene since 2002 as a DJ while J., with a history of classical music composition & past student of Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music, has turned his creative talents to composing tomorrow’s music today alongside Trinity as Trinity & Beyond.

The title track ‘Beyond Musique’ is a marching techno tune with a distinct industrial edge. The glitched-out, spooky ghost-like vocals present & combine with a gritty synth line to reveal a dark, edgy & thoughtful late night stormer. This one screams at the punters “Get your arse front and centre!!”

‘The Fat Man’ further showcases Trinity & Beyond’s affinity for warm-sounding synth lines. Layered on top of the warmth is a select layer of glitchy textures with a superb pad that brings the deepness where it’s most needed. Definitely one for the late night, together with the title track of the EP.

‘Nothing Else Matters’ showcases the deeper and more sensual sounds of Trinity & Beyond while still keeping the straight-up, no nonsense attitude of the previous two tracks. It’s a coolly, minimalist techno beat that stretches replete with deeper melancholia

Tracklisting:
01:: Beyond Musique
02:: The Fat Man
03:: Nothing Else Mattered

(ACP 055) Isocore - Sugna

Isocore - Sugna
Label: Acroplane.org
Cat#:ACP055
Format: MP3, 320 kbps
Release Date: 21 July 2009
Style: Abstract, IDM, Experimental

The second Isocore solo album is finally out after a long wait. Sugna means dirty, soggy, greasy, fat.

Isocore's aim is to destroy music, destroy tempo, destroy. Strumming over hiphop reminiscent beats, battering keys like a 2 year kid would do to dancefloor anthems, Sugna is an intense experience.....

isocore is Paolo Elmo, producer and designer born in Rome, Italy 1983. He started to produce beats in 2001. In 2003, together with Pierlo, Jacques Malchance and Tracky Birthday, founded the label Upitup Records (www.upitup.com) and started his live activity. From then to now he played in the most important clubs in Rome and other shows around Italy, Germany and UK, alongside artists like Team Doyobi, Ceephax Acid Crew, Tim Exile, Jason Forrest, Cylob, Milanese, Gescom to name a few.

From March 2009 he moved to Liverpool, where the album released here saw the light. His music, while preserving a distinctive style, is always shapeshifting from electro beats with deadly
detuned synths, to dark ambient rap anthems and musique concrete, always with a ironic touch.

Tracklisting:
1. Angolino 2:40
2. Tara Toro 4:27
3. Gricia 2:09
4. SUGNA (or how to destroy music and something else) 3:33
5. Illuminati 2:09
6. OPMet II 5:29
7. Corruzione feat. Zombina 4:08
8. Muffa 1:01
9. Ratty 3:43
