Raster Noton Anniversary: Kangding Ray Lyrique à la Gaîté

Raster Noton Anniversary: Kangding Ray Lyrique à la Gaîté
http://www.raster-noton.net/
http://www.kangdingray.com/

Architect, designer, artist ... The work of David Letellier, French living in Berlin and found behind the project Kangding Ray is always halfway between the disciplines. Thus, the Modular Sound System (designed with Dotline Collective, Florian Brillet and Anne Derian) is an amplification system modular home that invites a reflection on the sound in space, how it adapts, changes. It was also the subject of the structure "Tessel", a collaboration work with Lab (at).

The sound, space, construction, texture, shape ... are prisms through which we must observe the music of Kangding Ray. Less minimalist than most productions of the label Raster-Noton, tablecloths evoke a dark and full ambient "glitchée" breaks the sometimes complex.

While it is often remained discreet, Olaf Bender aka Byetone is behind the German label Raster-Noton (Rastermusic side). It is also the source of the graphic identity of the label. And it's hard not to think that its geometrical chroma limited to the minimum have almost as much done to the reputation of the label that the music itself. Byetone music, precisely, is its total visual echo: a techno glitch, in which one feels minimalist trance boil mounted at the heart of cold and industrial.

“Some Health Stories Of Note“ is the new EP by Remote Guest List which reflect his own modern take on heavily dub influenced music. Empty Love with its off beat heavy bass which become one with the groove to give it a strong backbone for eerie vocals to fly on top of it. A quasi “hip hop“ beat and a deep sub bass are the basic structure for They Don`t Know where vocal samples keeps the atmosphere ethereal. How Does It Come All Together starts with a dreamy synth atmosphere that soon take you somewhere more hypnotic with a heavy sub bass and kick and a four to the floor groove. Closing this new EP is Please where long dub delayes and piano chords pay a visionary homage to dub music most dreamy atmospheres. Album Cover: MStar Design.

[brq 79] Juno6 – Devils From Darkonia

Juno6 – Devils From Darkonia
Label: Broque – brq79, Broque – 079

Released: 01 Feb 2012
Genre: Electronic
Style: Dub, Techno, Ambient

On his third EP on Broque, Stefan Schultz (alias Juno6) merges his musical influences and roots – ranging from Boards of Canada to the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Jeff Mills – in the most direct and stunning way so far. Stefan is no stranger for most: his releases on Freude am Tanzen, Cargo Edition or Liebe*Detail gained a lot of attention as did his label “Oh!Yeah!” which he runs jointly with Sven Tasnadi and Daniel Stefanik. His new EP on Broque features five new, analogue electronic gems, which are only occasionally grounded on the dancefloor and wander off the beaten track to open up truly mind-bending perspectives. Techno history, personal reference points and state of the art sounds, are all melted into very unique and magical tracks. “Devils from Darkonia” clearly doesn’t need to adopt established dancefloor stereotypes but simply scores with original personality and character. The five tales on this EP could easily fill entire club nights, but for the moment, we are simply immensely grateful about this fantastic EP.

Petstov [ PetstovLab Recordings / Smoke Machine ] Chile

Petstov is a designer, writer, and a former stockbroker born in Valdivia, Chile, where in early 90's he started taking music beyond normal knowledge, but was not until 2001 that he start to take it seriously. He had already done some cdr a couple of years ago with tracks containing electronica and ambient, and was quite unsatisfied with the results. he switched from trackers to sequencers.
In early 2003 he started doing demo tracks under the Petstov name. the tracks started sounding better to him. he smiled. it was a start. in december 2003 he had compiled a demo array of tracks ranging from 3/3 techno to electronica to ambient, and received good response from the listeners, which inspired him to concentrate on music even more.
404 is the last and present project of Petstov, a mixture of Ambient & dub-techno build under 120bpm.

arkus Suckut may rightfully be named one of the most talented new names to have emerged from the German techno scene in a while.
Next to putting out records on labels like Figure SPC, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Lineal Records and Repitch, he recently started an imprint of his own, named SCKT.
The first release has seen the light of day and contains three great tracks, all of which have already been played out by the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Len Faki and Dimi Angelis.

The SCKT label is meant as a means of releasing his own material and I'm very much looking forward to any future releases likely to follow.
Apart from creating solo material and remixes, Markus has also been actively collaborating with one of my own major influences, Jeroen Search. This has already lead to a release on Figure SPC and a follow-up is in the works.

Markus Suckut proves through this podcast that he is a very talented artist, one that we're bound to see a lot more of in the coming years!

"Occasionally a mix comes along which re-defines what you think is possible within a style of music. In my view, what you are about to hear is that mix for techno in 2011. It makes almost everything ‘techno’ I’ve heard this year sound a bit lame, emaciated, and rote. In fact, it’s so powerful, I’m scared of it: I have to handle it with care, respect. As if my puny human arms can barely lift this warrior God hammer... indeed, it's many times more powerful than their previous mixes for us (ssg mx 26, handmade blend mix) building on their already unique style, which was aptly called 'pitch black techno war funk'. It's also more subtle: this mix totally hammers, but it never pummels or resorts to 'bangin' it out'. There's a beauty in the power, a swing in that hammer. It's martial, yes, but it's also very artful.

Most of the time, mixes are our accompanists: for commuting, for desk work, for the gym. Or perhaps, like the commercial '04 electrohouse fan who lived above me in Paris, for noisy lovemaking. Fine, we all need accompanists. I dare you to make love to this mix. On a third date. Or try commuting. This is not ‘another mix’, or your faithful servant. It demands you submit to it. It’s ssgs fourth birthday this week, so the original plan was to offer this mix to ourselves and you people as a gift... but I ended up having to offer myself to it, as a sacrifice, to bless the impending intergalactic warfare. If there’s a great big dancefloor in Valhalla (can you imagine the system?!), this is the music the warrior Gods dance to... both before they destroy their transdimensional demonic robot enemies, and in celebration when they have vanquished them."

FIBER Podcast 12 – Subforms

FIBER Podcast 12 – Subforms
http://www.fiber-space.nl/
http://soundcloud.com/subforms
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Subforms

"As the preparations for the second edition of FIBER Festival are in full swing, a nice, energetic mix from a Ukrainian city with the eloquent name of Dnipropetrovsk is well appreciated. The twelfth FIBER podcast brings us back to the caverns we inhabited at ClubTransmediale two weeks ago and is brought to you by the talented duo Subforms.

The name Subforms is knowingly chosen by Yevgeny Konovalov and Dmitry Oleynik. It refers to their atmospheric style that can be seen as a sub-form, or in other words, an under-current between genres like ambient, dub and deep techno. This personal style developed over the years: “I have an extensive taste in music,” says Yevgeny, “so the formation process was quite lengthy, but the turning point came when I listened to music by Basic Channel, Scape and Raster Noton. Later on, I discovered Echochord and Modern Love, these labels changed my perception of music. I fell in love!”

The formation of their extensive taste transgressed to their approach of production. “We don’t care about genre, we just like to express our moods and feelings through music.” Music is a subliminal mode of expressing experiences in life. This manifested itself in Subforms’ dreamlike sounds which have the ability to bring the listener to another dimension, a remote place on the border of reality. Their genre-crossing approach combines deep ambient sounds, delayed chord pads and a techno groove resulting in a spacious sound.

This notion of space is also clearly reflected in the accompanying artwork by French photographer Denis Olivier. His surreal landscapes, with pieces of reality and fantasy closely intertwined, seem directly taken from a dream. A feeling that has the alienating effect that you experience when you see the light after a long session of quality music. So enjoy this mix of spacious and yet energetic sounds from the east!"

It is Monday the 13th of February and we welcome Silent Servant for the first time on the CLR Podcast. The Central American born dj and producer has performed worldwide in clubs from Berlin, Los Angeles to Osaka. He is closely connected to the Sandwell District label and is currently working on a full length LP for Hospital Productions. His Remix of Planetary Assault System´s “Bell Blocker” is going to be released this month on Ostgut Ton. Silent Servant describes his sound as a reinterpretation of early '80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of Basic Channel and Downwards. The present 2 hour mix was recently recorded live and in one take in the Harbor City / Los Angeles. For all kinds of information on Sandwell District and Post Sandwell District, please visit the below mentioned blog. Slash Dot Dash Podcast 010: Cassegrain

Slash Dot Dash Podcast 010: Cassegrain
http://www.facebook.com/cassegrainmusic
http://www.slashdotdash.biz

After a chance meeting at the Red Bull Music Academy, in Barcelona, Cassegrain was formed.

The project explores the ground between dark, raw techno and UK influenced sounds, trying to find a balance between experiment and club orientated music.

For the A side of the debut 12” on Mikrowave, the pair worked with dubstep luminary, Benga, who provided his vocals for the first time. Following this, Cassegrain signed to Prologue, releasing the Dropa EP and the Coptic EP which their 3rd 12” (out later this month).

Cassegrain perform Live and DJ, their live act includes a mixture of software, hardware and additional elements that change each time.

It’s their DJs skills on show for our 10th Podcast. We’ve been trying to tie the pair down for almost 6 months, but their busy schedule had forced the mix back, but we’re finally able to add Cassegrain to our ever expanding Slash Dot Dash Podcast Family.

Indeks Music Podcast | 035 | ETAPP KYLE

Indeks Music Podcast | 035 | ETAPP KYLE
http://www.indeksmusic.com
http://www.facebook.com/etappkyleofficial

His style can be described as a thoroughbred techno regardless of country of origin (Japan, Germany, the U.S. or England), regardless of sex (Marcel Dettmann or Cio D’or), but depending on the format: when a thin melody strung on an industrial mood. Etapp Kyle breathes life into the dance floor of the country. His was truly a unique son of the Ukrainian club culture. In the name of the music, and not otherwise.

Soon Etapp Kyle releases ‘Sourness’ his third EP. The release includes three variations of dark acid-experimental track ‘Sourness’ plus a rework by Desonanz. Needless to say that experiments in the fields of dub and ambient-techno is Kyle’s signature . His ability to feel the music and convert these feelings into sounds is impressive. His music not only expands the boundaries of consciousness, but each time makes a revolutionary impact on the listener. Listen here: http://snd.sc/xPtiSX

DJ Skirt - Wax Works Mix 05

DJ Skirt - Wax Works Mix 05
http://www.wax-works.blogspot.com/
http://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Skirt/217181254198
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Skirt?anv=DJ+Skirt

The next Wax Works mix is here and this time it's coming straight outa Birmingham, from Horizontal Ground's DJ Skirt. Skirt first came to my attention with her record Horizontal Ground 07 and with her being the first artist on the label not to be anonymous it made things slightly easier when looking to get in touch. Unfortunately we weren't the only ones after a mix and as such it has taken about 1 year to finally get it, but it was most definitely worth the wait.

Skirt has delivered an absolutely quality mix that is 1 hour of raw, purist techno that just makes you want to go out - there's no boring mechanical perfection here, no overkill effects, just proper good tunes. I love the fact that you can hear the vinyl going slightly out and back in, I think it really adds to the vibe & tension of the set, coupled with the tune selection and the fact she drops 'speak to me', it's just superb.

In a nut shell, this is a serious fucking techno mix. All on vinyl and representing Birmingham.
essential then.
