After inaugurating our string of free releases with an exclusive remix by Berlin-based Tech-House maestro TILL VON SEIN, three R’n'B edits by Boston House duo SOUL CLAP, followed by a full length album by Argentine duo, FASE, we send you today Sakura, track taken out of our latest digital release: the Maquetas EP by BRANDUB – young Argentine producer from the city of Cordoba.

Very much involved in the local scene, Exequiel Brandan aka Brandub started playing in Cordoba’s main clubs such as La Macarena or Dorian Gray in 2007.
In those walls, he already engraved numerous sets with his friends and influences, such as Lexdinamo or Simbad. In 2008, the latter invited Exequiel to play the mythical annual summer night in Cordoba, at La Cantera (a magical mountain spot under the stars) along some of the countries greatest : Franco Cinelli, Jorge Savoretti or Gurtz were all part of it.
‘Sakura‘ exemplifies the interesting blend of deep house incorporating substantial dub-grain, that Brandub created in the ‘Maquetas EP‘ – an intimate release showing pride to its inspiration.

Last time we posted a podcast from Detroit legend Ms. PUNISHER was more than a year ago, marking the last episode for AirPod in 2008. Well here we are today, inaugurating 2010 with a new mix by the one and only Detroit mistress!

So many things happened in PUNISHER’s life since then: between flying to countless gigs stateswide, rocking the Hejdrop @ DEMF 2009 and playing Tresor Berlin a couple months ago… dancefloors have been wallopped and ravers punished… And not with any kinda weapons, hot burning wax is PUNISHER’s apparatus of choice.
With releases banged out in 2009 on Airdrop and on Open Concept, the 2010 charger is packed with golden bullets for Pun Pun: a remix on the recently founded Kerohand (K.Hand & Kero’s label – check out the amazing 1st release here), a record on Hej (Punisher’s own) and a European tour planned for Summer 2010… Punishment is upon us!

Pedro Perelman & Gustavo “Defi” Gagliardo are the musicians and artists behind the multifaceted Argentine collective, FASE. On their website – www.mundofase.com – you can discover the whole world of creations emanating from these guys, ranging from video production to contemporary painting, street art and of course, fine electronic music

After many releases on Argentina’s seminal record label Igloo, various records on Airdrop, as well as large European and North American tours, the boys are back again. The wicked world of FASE where music, painting and street art all warp into one, creates yet another entire universe consisting of organically evolving structures, adapting to the evolution of music.
For Airdropped 03, FASE delivers “Give Us A Break“, an experimental and explorational record. Providing two variations – an A-side and a B-side – to each one of six themes this project combines a certain nostalgia on the A-sides, to more sanguineness on the B-sides. “Give Us A Break” offers an entire journey to the West : its scorched textures and wooden aromas set us straight in the deserted backdrop of a road movie – deep and reflexive.

Through the A-sides, we find ourselves on the burning banks of a river. The harmonicas and guitars hold in their melodies a clear country and funk root, juxtaposing with breaky and minimal rythmical structures.

The album’s title track “Give Us A Break” is the soundtrack to an adult’s awakening, going from vertigo through to more sensitives landscapes, while “Lighter Slide” mocks itself of human conduct and everlasting fights, in loop…
On the B-sides, the folk melodies evolve into deeper and more hypnotic lines. The harmonies knit themselves around solid grooves and the range of frequencies move us to a twilight-fête where the warm and organic are kings. The B-side variations present cyclical, yet disarticulated and ironical rhythms. A certain open-air dancefloor focus is indeed preserved here.
