This week’s exclusive mix to delight your deserving ears comes from Headman – DJ and producer Robi Insinna, who has been at the forefront of the nu-disco movement since setting up Relish Records back in 2001.
As well as releasing his own material under a variety of aliases, Robi is also known to be a bit nifty on remixing duties, giving the likes of Chromeo, Zombie Nation and Roxy Music the space-disco treatment. As such, Headman’s mix for Clash works its way through a galaxy of cosmic disco and electronic punk-funk, containing several of Robi’s expert reworkings, such as his version of the Units’ classic synthpunk track ‘High Pressure Days’ and Tiga’s ‘Beep Beep Beep’, which gets… beepier.
Also featured in the mix is an electro-heavy rework of the ever-listenable ‘You’ll Disappear’ from The Phenomenal Handclap Band, a fine track from French electro-head Joakim and a selection of cuts from the Relish label itself, including something from fellow disco-enthusiasts The C90s. Marvellous stuff, all of it.
