Steve Setzepfandt and Josh Wittman are back with their second release on No-Source and third full-length album "Cedarleaf," the follow-up to 2009's "Glass Memories." "Cedarleaf" is Rho's most accessible album to date. It is a beautiful mix of electronic rhythms, synth swirls, and guitar driven melodies; a pop landscape with a mountain range of cinematic style. "Sun Justice" begins the album with soft ambient electronics, leading into the dark, electric guitar-heavy "Mississippi." "K-Eyes" sees Rho switching it up a little, with keyboards handling a potent pop melody. The rest of the album flows like a soundtrack with each song tipping its hat to the next. This all leads up to the fantastic climax that is "Day Into Night," a six-minute guitar-driven epic that crescendos into the shores of Post-Rock. Credits roll with night sounds, field recordings and soft synth pads as "The End Sleep" drifts into silence. This whole release comes highly recommended, especially for fans of Album Leaf / El Ten Eleven / Lymbyc Systym / Boards of Canada.

Myll is Swedish musician Edvin Lindström. The album 'Bland siffror och troll i en bil utan blinkers' (Translation: Among Numbers and Trolls in a Car Without Blinkers) is a refined mix of recording styles, musical inspiration and instrumentation. 'Bland siffror...' is a combination of opposites: analog and digital, acoustic and synth, complicated and simplistic, hi-fi and lo-fi. The album is as eclectic as it is a cohesive unit. In Edvin's own words, "This album is pretty much an uncensored showcase of everything I love about making music". These words ring true as his outpouring of ideas and his love of making music absolutely shine through here. From the joy of 'Väder och vind (Translation: Weather and Wind)', to the catchy pop of '35 mm', and the epic instrumental 'The Flash', Myll may have stumbled upon creating the best Spring album in recent memory. The Kalimba is a percussion instrument from Africa, sometimes called a thumb piano. It is also the basis for Tim Dwyer's latest album as Full-Source. Its soft metallic tones resonate throughout 10 of the 13 songs, winding in and out of the glockenspiels, synths, beats and other assorted instruments that form the backing track to lyrics exploring themes relating to the metaphorical lantern, ghost and sea of the title. Experimental lo-fi synth pop. Apsis Lappet is the solo project of Texas native Nate Kitchens. His music is as catchy as it is non-conventional. Listening to Apsis Lappet's debut, Suite Happy Sweet, I'm hit with waves of nostalgia. These songs are the songs created inside of my daydreams as a child. Kitchens manages to recall every note as he writes the aged lyrics and crafts this EP. Spidermunkey recalls a synth punk inner city attitude while Happier Day and Mellow remind me of early Magnetic Fields. The entire EP is mixed continuously without break, evoking a stream of consciousness or a dream-like state of mind.

B for Brontosaurus is everything there is to love in the world of indie pop. Quirky waves of lyrics interweaving with non-traditional instrumentation transport you back to a different age. Every song dabbles in harmonies as the trio trade in guitar and bass for the occasional synth, piano or harmonica. For those familiar with B for Brontosaurus' debut full length, expect a mellow listen with the Home EP. This is their quiet farewell to the world after breaking up in 2008. The Home EP channels a similar mystique to that of Magnetic Field's “69 Love Songs.” From the opening ditty, "Love Story," to the upbeat “Trace,” these songs are soaked in love and mystery. The EP closes with a short but beautifully haunting untitled number that only leaves us with questions. Whoever is gone, the band or someone close, they deserve a moment of silence. We'll miss you, B for Brontosaurus, just as much as you'll miss us.

mellow electronic / ambient / acoustic music. Rho is childhood friends Steve Setzepfandt and Josh Wittman. No-Source worked with Rho to curate the October Turncoat EP. October Turncoat sets out to show off Rho's more acoustic side. Each track contains washes of guitar complimented with subtle ambient texture. The EP often evokes the sounds of early Bibio or "The Campfire Headphase" era Boards of Canada. Three songs, Simpl, JW2 and The Game of Flowers are all taken from Rho's 2008 debut, "Breathing Through the Liquid System". The songs, Long Drive Home and Lightning Strikes and LEDs are taken from Rho's most recent album "Glass Memories". The EP contains one previously unreleased track, And More Rain, a 5 minute journey of backwards guitars, subtle picking, drums and end of a season.
