It has come time again for us to discuss the matter of a new release. It is a new month: February. And with each month I have promised a full release of music alongside an unreleased track weekly. I am really glad, just real glad here, to present to you this new EP of music, Makyo. It’s a collection of tracks that may be rightfully seen as a companion release to L-Msaria B-Lglass (on Archipel) and Mshia-F-Lehkla (on Rope Swing Cities). These six tracks are some of the ‘outtakes’ from those two EPs and now they’ve come together to tell a new little story in Makyo.
What story? I’m not to say, but I’ll tell you a different story while I have your attention. You see those titles? ‘Mshia-F-Lehkla’, ‘L-Msaria B-Lglass’? They probably look like nonsense, the product of a demented mind, or the result of throwing alphabet soup at the wall and writing down the results… but it isn’t so! Instead, it’s a lesson in another language – great fun! Those titles come from a book about a girl growing up in a Moroccan brothel. These two titles were her escape from the oppression of her home. ‘L-Msaria B-Lglass’ is ‘The Sitting Promenade’ and ‘Mshia-F-Lehkla’ translates as ‘A Walk In the Meadow’ (a rare occurrence in her early life). Look it up if you don’t believe me! I hope that you do because you are curious, not out of a lack of trust between us. If that’s the case, we shouldn’t be talking about silly releases but instead working on building trust. Or… I can stop this gabbing all together and let you listen to the release. I hope you enjoy and thanks for listening. Let’s check in again next week and talk about a new track.
Tracklist:
1 Brixton For You 3:53
2 Semi-Fabulous Witches 2:14
3 Pastor Killing Town 0:39
4 Kunstenares 4:49
5 Prole Drift 5:34

(AH 037) Ten And Tracer - You'll Be A Hero Soon, Speaker
Ten And Tracer - You'll Be A Hero Soon, Speaker
Label: Archaic Horizon
Catalog#: AH037
Format: 8 x File, MP3, Album, 192 kbps, FLAC
Country: US
Released: 23 Jan 2010
Genre: Electronic
Style: IDM, Downtempo, Ambient
Credits: Artwork By - Acre Collective, The , Archaic Horizon , Jonathan Canupp
Written-By, Recorded By - Jonathan Canupp
Notes: All songs written and recorded 2000-2004.
Track 7 spelled "Sometimes Tyne-Tees" on the back cover.
Jonathan Canupp, the fellow behind the name Ten and Tracer, gives us these previously thought to be lost songs as the album 'You'll be a Hero Soon, Speaker'. He says they come from one of the best and most transformative periods of my life and reflect a new expermintation in his music. As fans of Ten and Tracer's early work would expect, this album is filled with the corrupted chords and detuned drones that listeners quickly learned to crave. Synths are ever mysterious, as they elusively pan the stereo field and compose emotive melodies.
While some tracks revolve entirely around ambient tones and melodies, drums remain an integral part of Ten and Tracers music. As Jonathan says, "they're probably made out of tapping twigs and reproduced Rolands". Whatever the case, for songs like 'Dodecahedron Leads the Way' and 'Sometimes Tyne-Tees' the rhythms become a more driving force. Their soft timbres and lively repetitions create a beautiful counter to the swelling, sustained chords so prominent in this album. Aside from this rhythmic play over ambient textures, Ten and Tracer laces in samples of obscured voices and clever references leaving much to be deciphered.
Tracklist:
1 Fenton Relay Tag 5:10
2 Wentzl Ruml 3:09
3 Have You Ever Been? 3:32
4 Dodecahedron Leads The Way 3:42

(TSO) Ten And Tracer - Tsotsitaal
Ten And Tracer - Tsotsitaal
Label: Care
Catalog#: TSO
Format: 14 x File, MP3
Country: US
Released: 4 May 2009
Genre: Classical, Electronic
Style: Abstract, Experimental, Ambient
Credits: Written-By, Recorded By - Jonathan Canupp
The word "Tsotsitaal" means "criminal language," but the music couldn't be more distant from such. Tsotsitaal is a collection of soft drones and patient textures sourced from old synths, tapes, violin, acoustic guitar, flute, broken music boxes and field recordings. Each source has been carefully manipulated in a variety of ways. Some were subjected to deconstruction and wearing using reels and recorders, sound-on-sound layering, microphone mischief and the like. Others were sent through Ten and Tracer's collection of home-made Reaktor patches and a cascade of other novel digital processes all performed live.
Each session resulted in dozens of layers (and hours) which were then edited down and detailed. The sound is almost wholly organic in nature, reflective and meditative. It is a bath of pleasantries with a distinct opiate sensibility. Calm and warm. Deeply personal and full of heart.
Tracklist:
1 Needed To Wet The Collar 4:24
2 The Tradewasp 5:25
3 Secular Boland 5:36
4 Cut Grass Vuur Plaats 4:47
5 You Sure Won't Need An Enemy 1:10
6 What The NRPG Did For Me 6:28
7 I'm Sorry You're Here 1:08
8 Hetch Hetchy Crowd 2:53
9 Another Way Of Ways 4:29
10 Take A Like Of Me 3:12
11 Falling Asleep In Sadness 4:00
