De vijfenzestigste DJB podcast is afkomstig van de fransman Terence Fixmer. Het is een liveset geworden met - dus - enkel eigen werk. Na dik tien jaar produceren heb je als 't goed is ook wel genoeg werk verzameld om dat te kunnen doen. Voor de verandering hebben we ook weer eens fatsoenlijk antwoord gekregen op onze vragen. DJB: Wie ben je?

Fixmer: In een paar woorden: Ik ben Terence Fixmer, kom uit Frankrijk, ik produceer techno onder mijn eigen naam sinds 1998 en ik heb uitgebracht op releases als Gigolo, Datapunk, Music Man, Novamute, Different, White Noise, en laatst nog op Speedy J's nieuwe label Electric Deluxe.

DJB: Wat voor gear heb je gebruikt om de mix op te nemen?

Fixmer: Als ik een liveset doe gebruik ik Ableton, een Motu Mk2, een Mackie 1604 vlz pro, een Clavia Micro Modular, een MFB synth 2 en een Dave Smith instrument Evolver en wat externe effecten en wat midi controllers.

DJB: Wat is het concept van je mix? Had je een strijdplan?

Fixmer: Als ik een liveset doe hou ik er van mijn tracks op te splitsen in acht loops of één of twee maten. Die stuur ik als aparte bestanden via de Motu naar de Mackie. Vanaf daar bouw ik live de track weer op via de aparte kanalen van de Mackie. Dan moet ik alleen nog onthouden welke loop wat is... Als ik één track in acht loops opsplits, zijn 10 tracks in tachtig loops opgesplitst. Het is me dus wel eens gebeurd dat ik per ongeluk een verkeerde loop in een track heb gezet.

DJB: Waar ben je op dit moment vooral mee bezig?

Fixmer: Als ik een track maak in de studio, vind ik de creatie het leukst, maar ik haat het om de arrangementen te doen. Daar ben ik veel te veel mee bezig.

DJB: Wat wordt je volgende release?

Fixmer: Verschillende remixes. Eén voor Crash Course In Science, één voor David Carretta en nog één voor Thomas Anderson. Nieuwe persoonlijke releases komen er aan op From Jupiter of Planete Rouge in oktober, en ik bereid er één voor voor Electrice Deluxe.

DJB: Ben je de komende tijd nog ergens in Nederland te bewonderen?

Fixmer: Ja, waarschijnlijk binnenkort, er staan wat opties open. Ik speelde een paar weken terug nog in Doornroosje in Nijmegen, en zal waarschijnlijk dit jaar nog op een Electric Deluxe feestje staan.
