Henning Baer is a man on a mission who’s slowly been building his name in Berlin and beyond. As one half of the team behind the Grounded Theory Berlin project, now up to the 14th party, they’ve hosted names such as Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Function, Redshape, Traversable Wormhole, Perc, Pattern Repeat, Terence Fixmer to name a few.

Grounded Theory, not content with being just a party, is also a booking agency and soon to be label. Looking after Milton Bradley, Subjected & Moerbeck (Vault Series), Fanon Flowers, Sawlin and Sawf, it’s easy to see that Henning is building an ever-expanding stable of young talent, that will shape the face of techno for years to come.

As a DJ, he’s a regular around his hometown of Berlin. On top of his Grounded Theory parties he can be found playing his trade at the legendary Tresor, Arenaclub and Suicide Circus, as well as an increasing number of appearances around Europe. His no compromise underground techno has been destroying dancefloors at every turn.

It was only a matter of time before Henning took the next logical step into production. Setting up the K209 label, in 2011, with Milton Bradley and dropping the first release in March. He followed it up with his first solo release on the label in September. He’s since had tracks snapped up by Adam X’s Sonic Groove label.

After the Tea And Techno blog named Henning in their ‘Ones To Watch For 2012’ list, all the signs are pointing to a very bright future for this exciting prospect.

Juno Plus Podcast 32 - The Exaltics

Based in the humble city of Jena in central Germany, Robert Witschakowski started producing music in the late 90s and had his first official release in 2007. His most well known work has been under The Exaltics moniker, with the three part 1000 Lights In The Sky EP released in 2010 on legendary electro imprint Bunker Records.

This was followed in 2011 with They Arrive, a six-track EP for another Dutch electro institution, Crème Organization. The release continued the long love affair between techno and science fiction, and Juno Plus scribe Oli Warwick described The Exaltics sound as “moody, bleak, and bursting with atmosphere”. The bulk of his music, however, has been released on the diminutive Solar One Music label he runs with Nico Jagiella.

Robert described his Juno Plus Podcast as “more of a sound collage than a regular mix”. “I didn’t want to speed up or slow down the tracks, so I cut them all together with some fx, effects and synths,” he explains. “I like it this way; it’s like a movie soundtrack.” The mix contains an ample helping of unreleased heat from The Exaltics, alongside material from Ersatz Audio duo ADULT. and other obscure slices of grubby, utterly intoxicating electro.

TEA Podcast #21 - Mike Parker

TEA Podcast #21 - Mike Parker
http://mikeparkernet.tumblr.com/
http://mikeparker.bandcamp.com/
http://teaandtechno.blogspot.com.au/

Self proclaimed noise maker, artist, university lecturer and first and foremost electronic music producer, Mike Parker, has cultivated one of the most distinguishable sounds in techno to date.

Parker combines his quiet obsession with analogue experimentation, fascination of ring modulators and love of the atonal and dissonant, to create a signature and patented sound often recognisable from the first bar. Take one listen to Parker's original 1999 Drainhum - recently re-released on his own Geophone imprint - and it is clear Parker's definitive vision of techno has been rigorously cultivated since day one.

Rumour has it the late Arthur Russell spent one day fine tuning a kick drum, while his co-musicians waited to begin recording. Similar practice is not uncommon in Parker's "base of operations" - his apartment in Buffalo, New York, where he can obsess over a pattern for more than 24 hours.

Parker currently teaches Fine Art at a university level, where only his curious students find out who "Mike Parker" really is. Via Skype, I hooked up with Parker at his Buffalo HQ, where he spoke of a trip to the aquarium with Cio D'Or, why rave should remain in the '90s, his love for Prologue, dislike of the word drone and the need to start a tea collection.
