Orphx are now a permanent fixture of Sonic Groove’s industrial-heavy roster; in addition to the four records they’ve already released for the label, the duo will be releasing the Boundary Conditions 12″  next week. Since their first appearance on the label in 2009 Orphx have focused on melding elements of dancefloor sound design together with a challenging tonality, and have subsequently plunged themselves further into a sphere of techno they helped to influence by remixing acts such as Svreca, Giorgio Gigli & Obtane and Adam X’s Traversable Wormhole project.

Richard and Christine’s mix for Juno Plus feels like an extension of their own sound, with an hour’s worth of cold, dark, tunnelling techno from artists whose music has been an inspiration on their forthcoming release. We spoke with Oddie over email about their upcoming European tour, cassette tape labels and how to approach remixes.

Juno Plus Podcast 34: Tessela

Juno Plus Podcast 34: Tessela
http://www.junodownload.com/plus/2012/05/09/juno-plus-podcast-34-tessela
http://www.juno.co.uk/artists/Tessela/

The West Country based producer might not be the most prolific, but he has certainly developed a distinct sound, focusing on a forthright, swinging and smacky production style that has graced a disparate but well respected clutch of UK labels thus far. Tessela first swung into focus with Slugger, the out of the blue debut for Irish beat botherers All City, before arising with meaty contributions to the 2nd Drop label and Punch Drunk. The latter was perhaps one of our favourite 12”s on Peverelist’s all conquering label in recent times, with “Channel” in particular demonstrating a rugged panache for box jam beats and cracking MPC funk.

The early promise Tessela showed on a remix of Truss for Perc Trax will be explored further with his forthcoming remix shaped contribution to the next release on the fledgling Vae Victis imprint from Die Roh duo Luca Segato and Marco Zanin.

The scene was set for a Juno Plus podcast then, and Tessela duly obliged with a thumping hour’s worth of music that throws in a tantalising sound of what to expect from Sunil Sharpe’s EP for Blawan and Pariah’s label She Works along with contributions from Juno Plus favourites D’Marc Cantu, Gerry Read, Alex Coulton and Geeeman. Tessela was also kind enough to engage in a bout of email Q &A for us.

Tracklisting:
1. Redshape – Mucky Bones (Present)
2. Gelosten Crikel – Yamagic (Mustache Records)
3. Andy Stott – Night Jewel (Modern Love)
4. Skudge – Silent Running (Dekmantel)

Juno Plus Podcast 32 - The Exaltics

Juno Plus Podcast 32 - The Exaltics
http://www.the-exaltics.com
http://www.facebook.com/TheExaltics
http://www.junodownload.com/plus

Based in the humble city of Jena in central Germany, Robert Witschakowski started producing music in the late 90s and had his first official release in 2007. His most well known work has been under The Exaltics moniker, with the three part 1000 Lights In The Sky EP released in 2010 on legendary electro imprint Bunker Records.

This was followed in 2011 with They Arrive, a six-track EP for another Dutch electro institution, Crème Organization. The release continued the long love affair between techno and science fiction, and Juno Plus scribe Oli Warwick described The Exaltics sound as “moody, bleak, and bursting with atmosphere”. The bulk of his music, however, has been released on the diminutive Solar One Music label he runs with Nico Jagiella.

Robert described his Juno Plus Podcast as “more of a sound collage than a regular mix”. “I didn’t want to speed up or slow down the tracks, so I cut them all together with some fx, effects and synths,” he explains. “I like it this way; it’s like a movie soundtrack.” The mix contains an ample helping of unreleased heat from The Exaltics, alongside material from Ersatz Audio duo ADULT. and other obscure slices of grubby, utterly intoxicating electro.

Tracklist:
1. Ag Geige – Elektrische Banane (klangFarBe)
2. Global Surveyor feat. K1& Gab Gato – Global Surveyor (Crotaphytus Moloch Horridus Mix) (Dominance Electricity)
3. The Exaltics – My Language (Solar One Music)
4. Gosub – Plug In (Solar One Music)

6. Simplicity Is Beauty – Operators Manual (The Exaltics Remix) (The Public Stand)
7. Adult – Lost Love (Ersatz Audio)

Juno Plus Podcast 29 - Ekoplekz

Juno Plus Podcast 29 - Ekoplekz
http://www.junodownload.com/plus

Ekoplekz steps up for Juno Plus Podcast 29 with a mix that carves its own distinct line between King Tubby and the Radiophonic Workshop.

Nick Edwards has been an important part of Bristol’s musical landscape for some time now, initially as a blogger on Gutterbreakz (he still blogs regularly here), before coming to prominence as a producer with a flurry of releases in 2010 and 2011, including the Intrusive Incidentalz Vol.1 LP for Punch Drunk.
This week he released the Dromilly Vale EP on Public Information, with the record’s title a nod to “an imaginary recording studio that is a cross between King Tubby’s on Dromilly Ave, Kingston, JA and the Radiophonic Workshop’s Maida Vale studio in London”. Thrillingly, his mix for Juno Plus further explores this theme, pairing dub tracks from Prince Jammy, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and more alongside the work of Radiophonic tinkerers Dick Mills and Malcolm Clark. Ekoplekz was also kind enough to answer some questions we emailed him in vivid detail.

Juno Plus Podcast 11 - Vakula

Juno Plus Podcast 11 - Vakula
http://soundcloud.com/vakula
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vakula

This week Ukrainian producer extraordinaire Vakula takes the reins for an hour long mix consisting entirely of his own productions - many of which can be heard here for the very first time.

The name Vakula was first mentioned breathlessly at Juno Plus HQ in mid 2010 - yes we slept on the Uzuri release - following his appearance on Firecracker's highly collectible EP series. It was the first time the imprint had reached outside its tight knit family of Scottish producers, and it sparked a relentless procession of releases for the likes of Dekmantel, 3rd Strike, Best Works, and, most recently, Firecracker's Unthank sub-label.

We now regard Vakula as our favourite Ukrainian since Mila Kunis, and his Juno Plus mix showcases the full breadth of his production nous, from glorious stuttering piano lines to bubbling acid and Detroit style chord movements.

Tracklist:
1. Steve Reich 2×5: Movement 3 Fast (Vakula remix) (white label)
2. Fudge Fingas – Mass X (Vakula dub mix) (forthcoming on Firecracker Recordings)
3. Vakula – Picture Of You (Dekmantel)
4. Vakula – Music (Dekmantel)
5. Vakula – Acid Release (Dekmantel)
6. Vakula – Johnny (Dekmantel)
7. Vakula – Track 3 (Unthank)
8. Vakula – Sso (forthcoming on Firecracker Recordings)
9. Vakula – JLady (forthcoming on White Leleka)
10. Vakula – Dub As Always (unreleased)
11. Vakula – No Name (unreleased)
12. Vakula – Only Deep (unreleased)
13. Vakula – N (forthcoming on Firecracker Recordings)
