Dispatch Agency Podcast #19 – Mixed By Moodcut
Who is moodcut? This is a question being thrown around pretty frequently these days and rightly so, since dropping the ‘Tame Cats’ EP on nous-disques back in November, moodcut has gone from being an unknown artist to a producer being tipped for bigger and better things in 2015.
For this Podcast, moodcut-1 has brought together a serious selection of dusty house burners, Chicago and Detroit infused cuts and the hazy aspects of what made his Nous EP (and his own production) so damn infectious. Tracks from terekke, patriciaaa, route8, willis-anne and Kassem Mosse all helping to showcase the buzz and excitement that currently surrounds house music, which in (a large) part is down to labels such l-i-e-s, lobster-theremin, opal-tapes, nous-disques and Workshop, to name a few.
No matter how many more questions get asked, one thing’s for certain, moodcut just killed it with this mix.

The West Country based producer might not be the most prolific, but he has certainly developed a distinct sound, focusing on a forthright, swinging and smacky production style that has graced a disparate but well respected clutch of UK labels thus far. Tessela first swung into focus with Slugger, the out of the blue debut for Irish beat botherers All City, before arising with meaty contributions to the 2nd Drop label and Punch Drunk. The latter was perhaps one of our favourite 12”s on Peverelist’s all conquering label in recent times, with “Channel” in particular demonstrating a rugged panache for box jam beats and cracking MPC funk.
The early promise Tessela showed on a remix of Truss for Perc Trax will be explored further with his forthcoming remix shaped contribution to the next release on the fledgling Vae Victis imprint from Die Roh duo Luca Segato and Marco Zanin.
The scene was set for a Juno Plus podcast then, and Tessela duly obliged with a thumping hour’s worth of music that throws in a tantalising sound of what to expect from Sunil Sharpe’s EP for Blawan and Pariah’s label She Works along with contributions from Juno Plus favourites D’Marc Cantu, Gerry Read, Alex Coulton and Geeeman. Tessela was also kind enough to engage in a bout of email Q &A for us.

Milenko Subotic is a DJ and producer coming from Serbia. Since his debut on David Duriez' Kill Brique label,this guy has been pretty busy producing and working his way up the scene.So far he has released a wide variety of records from moody Detroit techno inspired stuff,to straight up techno stompers. His talent was spotted by a true legend of the Dutch techno scene Orlando Voorn,who asked him to remix an underground anthem from the nineties "Game One",produced by Voorn and Juan Atkins. This release marked the rebirth of Voorn's label Nightvision,which will be releasing some of Subotic's deep and old school techno tracks alongside the likes of Steve Rachmad,Ken Ishii,Terrence Dixon as well as the fresh new talent.His release on E-Motionz records was quite big with heavyweights such as Laurent Garnier,Sasha,Christian Smith,Remute,Silicone Soul and many others. His work for Alex Bau’s DMOM label has been remixed by the almighty Technasia and supported by a lot of big techno names.Subotic’s debut album is to be released later this year on Orlando Voorn’s new imprint Divine recordings. His diverse style in music production translates to his dj sets,mixtures of everything from soulful Theo Parrish grinders,to ear raping Redshape synths and even some dubstep tracks.
