Yes, after closing down last year, we're back. We decided it was time to have fun again. Since we closed, the netlabel scene has changed a lot. The internet has changed a lot. Most of our favorite netlabels don't exist anymore. Everything has changed, for the better we think.

The thought of reopening occured to me in January 2010, after the haiti earthquake. As i stood helpless in front of my television screen, the way i envisioned to help was to make a compilation to raise awareness and funds for haiti. While that didnt turn out the way i wanted it to, i strongly and whole-heartedly advise you to go over to any of these fine establishements : Oxfam, Earthship, Google crisis response. If you think i'm missing some, please email me and i'll add them.

A slew of artists, new faces, old friends, have given their time to create these wonderful pieces for your enjoyment. Nest is a project of fellow pianists and record label operators Otto Totland (Deaf Center / Type Records) and Huw Roberts (Serein). They became friends when they were members of the Miasmah free netlabel. This self-titled EP is their first work publicly released. It is apparently no longer available through Serein since their 2009 rebuild, but has been remastered and incorporated into the album RETOLD. The recording is too good to fade into obscurity, so it lives again now at the WFMU Free Music Archive.

"Both pianists, there is little wonder that after exploring a plethora of musical styles, the two find themselves most at home writing traditionally structured pieces, with the ivories a major element throughout. The EP demonstrates clearly the innate ability the two have for song writing, borrowing from the world of film soundtracks and contemporary classical composers to craft delicate instrumental compositions.

"Alongside their favoured instrument can be variously heard the plucked strings of the Welsh harp, violins, woodwind instruments, field recordings, percussion and a heady dose of mind wobbling effects. From the time Nest began writing together, one purpose was clear; to produce beautiful music free of pretense, and they do it exceptionally well."

This album is a modest try of returning the spirit of Renaissance into the present age. ‘The Eclipse of Planet’s Beauty’ is about all of us – about extinction of nature and going deeper and deeper into the virtual world, about cruel wars and modern philosophy, humanism in nowadays perception and nuclear sunsets, ancient mythologies and cities of the future – the things we are facing often feeling strange or unanswered, but the things we are rushing toward like into the first summer rain. This artwork is some kind of reply to this so fast changing world, or maybe to our so morphing way of life. Sometimes the ages of past are much more closer than they appear and the delicate sculptures are much more alive than it may seem. The same as heavenly bodies change their orbits, slowly but insuperable, civilizations are moving round, some of them still afraid of themselves. It’s like seeing the moon in the sky by day through the gentle resistance of crystal ice, like watching the stars in the antique observatory lying in deep grass. It’s like a glass sphere in the storm, like an organ prelude passing through the waves of biosphere. Let the music describe all this feelings the best.

The album guides the listener into the impressive and psychedelic trips through the forests around the Baltic sea, through the leaves and lakes, through baroque forest lights, the stars and the shadows, where you will never feel alone, where all the way at warm summer nights and foggy autumn mornings is full of beautiful emotions and transparent feelings – the things, that are not changing with the centuries.

“Kur Zeme” is a project of Mahi Bukimi, started at 2003. Stylistic directions of it can be described in many ways – neoclassic, synth-ambient with the elements of nature music, as well as psychedelic improvisations, new age and impressionism. It is hard to define the feeling of roomy seas and forests, karmic emptiness and joy, gothic and infospace, if you are using the rational words Composer leaves this “task” to the listeners. “Kur Zeme” is a word play in Latvian. “Kurzeme“ is one of the historical districts of Latvia, but “kur zeme” means “where the land is”. Artist is looking for the balance in using modern equipment and feeling the nature, making an electronic music and composing in traditions of the baroque musician.

“So, here it is. Leandi is my spring and summer of 2009. More specifically it’s my most sincere release in a very long time. It’s the result of looking at the creation process in a different light, without engaging in reasoning and just letting the music come as it may. Normally I would venture into more ambient landscapes and experimental sounds, but I wanted this release to be simple and open. Heavily inspired by childhood, fatherhood, watching my son grow up, play, communicate and learn the ways of the world.”
