OAKE - M.U. Podcast 58 #

OAKE it's a girl and boy from Berlin    (Eric and Bathseba) that are making « haunted, moody, atmospheric pagan-pop with shades of early Coil, The Sugarcubes and The Haxan Cloak  ». OAKE release "Offenbarung" should be coming out this week on Regis's Downwards Label (founded by Karl 'Regis' O'Connor, enjoys its 20th year of existence). Meanwhile check out the Erajh Nur Dwafa video.

About the mix: It is built around a custom made OST of the movie "Messiah of Hell". Seba and I decided not too just mix tracks with each other, but try to do like a horror movie audio book. We hope you enjoy it!

M.U. - What's your expectations for 2013?

OAKE - We don't have any expectations, really. we will just try to spend as much time as possible making music, which means writing new pieces and also thinking about how we'd perform them live. Eventually we will feel ready and then we'll see if people are eager to find out about what we've done. The time is now! OAKE

Passage presents an overview compilation devoted to the label’s update – now Passage is a part of FUSELab media association. This compilation covers the musical matter that already became familiar to our listeners and also sets a new vector of resource’s development.
The collection consists of two equal parts separated by a thin emotional edge and includes works of permanent label artists, as well as entirely new heroes’ magic. Sublime passages of Clouds In My Home, Gaston Arevalo and 9 Fake Tears, deep rich worlds of Clapan, Polar Lights and Feldmaus, thin enveloping textures of Offthesky, Lazzich and Naono, multifaceted design of Slow, Doyeq, Unique Matter and so much more.

(XSN 036) Various - Our Back Yard

Various - Our Back Yard
Label: Xynthetic Netlabel
Catalog#: XSN036
Format: 10 x File, MP3
Released: Nox 2009
Genre: Electronic
Style: IDM, Techno, Minimal, Tech House, Leftfield

Welcome to Our Back Yard, Xynthetic Netlabel’s first real look around the place to see what our neighbors are up to.
Graeme and I started Xynthetic in late 2006 with the intent of working with artists both local to and remote from Vancouver. Up ‘til now we’ve been very successful working with remote artists, but our presence in our home base has been slow in coming. Outside of our own tracks, and artists like The Square Root of Evil, Daega and Revelostoker, Xynthetic hasn’t had a lot of interaction with the local crowd.
In July of this year I performed at Sequential Circus 5 along with a couple of the other acts on this compilation: Filip Gorecki and Konketsu. I had a chance to meet and catch up with a number of other e-muso’s there and the idea to do a Vancouver-focused compilation became obvious. I started to put this compilation in motion that night.
This compilation should not be taken as a summation or encapsulation of the Vancouver electronic music community. The Vancouver electronic music scene is large and varied, and we wouldn’t presume to speak for it. This is a collection of music by artists who called Vancouver home at the time the tracks were assembled and happened to be tuned into our wavelength. Some of the artists are native Vancouverites, but a number are immigrants to the city like myself (I moved from around Detroit in early 2000).
In the end it comes down to 10 tracks by electronic musicians and producers who happen to be located in Vancouver. Neither inclusion nor omission is in any way a poltical statement. As always Xynthetic casts a wide styiistic net rather than a laser focus on a genre or sound... this is music we like united by a unique piece of geography. We hope you enjoy the compilation, and thanks for your continued support of Xynthetic Netlabel and the artists who work with us.

Tracklist:
1. The Automatic Message - Ham and Enos
2. Bloodway - Mr. Sawatzky's Silent Visit
3. Tim Gerwing - Thinking of You
4. Konketsu - Pinnacle

(PM 012) Sky Barstow - It's Circular

Sky Barstow - It's Circular
Label: Peppermill Records
Catalog#: PM012
Format: 7 x File, MP3, 320 kbps
Country: Canada
Released: 16 Apr 2009
Genre: Electronic
Style: Leftfield, Electro, Synth-pop
Credits: Artwork By [Cover] - Dallas Clayton
Performer - Robin Barstow

Robin Barstow started quite young... he got his first synth at the age of 5, which he's since modified with light-sensitive modulation. He started sequencing at 12. Influencing him at the time was a lot of prog and psychedelic music from the 60's and 70's such as Nektar, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, The Man Band, but also things like Tonto's Expanding Head Band as well as Tangerine Dream.

Now at the age of 25, and still living in his native country of Norway, he works as a sound engineer when he's not circuitbending or skiing or travelling. He lives for a good coffee and quiet surroundings, the latter he attributes to living in a noisy studio within a noisy city.

It's Circular was partially inspired by his recent fascination for house organs, "those big enormous ugly things" of the 70's and 80's. He's currently building an octopus-like midi controller to use live, and he's always searching for "that special" sawtooth wave.
