This edition of LMM is a collaboration between myself and a group of middle school music students, many of whom started playing music only recently, under the direction of their instructor Jason Golday (author of LMM 1.8 - Burning Music). The process was a fairly simple one: Over the last academic year, the students have been writing pieces of music together, using what pitches they know (between five and seven different ones) on the available instruments (drums, glockenspiels, and recorders). Jason recorded these pieces and sent them to me. I manipulated them in various ways, adding voice and a few other sounds, paying close attention to the environmental elements of the recordings I had been given. In some cases, the sound of the space in which these pieces were initially performed is almost as important as the actual musical notes.

It was Jason's idea to attempt this. I have to give him a big thanks for suggesting it. He heard early on the mesmerizing compositions his students were writing, and knew they were worth doing something more with. Once I started working on it, I too realized how strong and unique their musical concepts were. Really, the album was done before I ever got to it. I'm really happy with how it all turned out.

«It is hard to believe that it was almost three years ago that we saw the last release from our dear friend Mikel Martínez, titled 'Health Needs', a concept album about a fictional life/death situation. And before that, more than five years ago, test tube was graced at the very beginnings of its existance with the short EP 'Spring is coming soon EP', which gathered some very nice words about it at the time, like for instance: '(...) a truly superb mix of acoustic and electric elements, with all the elegance of classic minimalism and all the presence of an early-1970s singer-songwriter album.' - Marc Weidenbaum dixit.

Enter his new EP, 'The Last Summer Days', another 4 tracker like the first one, equally absorbing, equally delicate and dreamy, but with a couple of differences of note. Mikel matured his sound enough, to the point that it can now acommodate his shy singing. Aitänna77 is now, at last, a complete 'singer slash songwriter' musical project, which he seemed to sought after when he started it.
Fans of the 'old' Aitänna77 should rejoice, and fans of the new should also love the old, because it is the same... it's everything there, still... and moving. New and beautiful songs (and a Codeine cover), the same awkward but rightly placed instruments, the same minimalistic scores and arrangements and that same seemingly out-of-place nostalgia we learned to love, that keeps us from getting grounded to a particular moment in time. 'Tarde o Temprano' feels like watching 'Verano Azul' twenty-five years later (only our spanish readers will understand this, sorry.). Such a perfect little gem!

Here are three EP-length suites. The Big Sell EP is music written to accompany imaginary television commercials. The lyrical themes are derived from the three song topics supposedly most requested by advertisers looking for songs to place in commercials: "Thinking Ahead," "Brand New Day," and "Things Are Getting Better."

The three pieces that make up The Way of A. O. K. each conceptually combine a sound found in modern life (an ATM, a turn signal, a baseball stadium) with a short quote from Lao Tzu's Toa Te Ching. The keyboard sounds are meditations recorded at half speed, giving upon (faster) playback a broader perspective of their combined revelations. This music is unashamedly inspired by the sounds of Terry Riley's Rainbow in Curved Air.

The Ghost Transferences are stream of consciousness pop rants sung in part by channelled spirits, addressing topics of identity crisis and the random hauntings of modern memory.

Clerkfish is an aquatic vertebrate that is covered with scales of cynicism. During the evolution process, this fish became cold-blooded because of eating different media products. There is only one thing in all aquatic environments that hepls this creature in self-realization – MUSIC. Clerkfish needs to eat at least one good mixtape every day, otherwise it dies fast either in abyssal depths of the chaotic post-modernist ocean or from a fisherman’s knife.
We happened to meet one in the nearest lake. It was a really weird creation that looked very hungry. So we had nothing to do than to feed the clerkfish with our latest mixtape that opened a new chapter of Mixgalaxy Records diary. Yes, we go international! Artists form around the world took part in this project. Among them are IMDB listed old-school hip-hop artist Brandon K. Montoya aka Coruscate and Bear & Lampshade duo from USA, Brazilian pop-singer Yokandesh, UK vocalist Gizella and finally Spanish multi-instrumentalist Raul Diaz Palomar aka Taker 51. Some of them have got slots in our release shedule.
And of course a few already known Mixgalaxy artists demonstrated their creativity again. So this is another salad-style compilation that proves our motto ‘Delivering Diverse Music’. Ambient, IDM, Russian folk-pop, acid broken beat, hip-hop, lounge, smooth jazz, hardcore space electronica, cold and warm, catchy and glitchy, melodic and abstract – everybody can find something for him- or herself. No doubt about it.
New chapter requires new illustrations. So welcome our new painter Ket Golosov, the author of this wonderful cover art.

Danish Daycare is the brain child of Malmö resident Daniel Jönsson. As a full time member of Emerald Park - released on 23 seconds earlier this year - Jönsson has already added considerable achievements to his name over the course of his musical career, apart from his recent ventures as a solo performer.

Just like Emerald Park, where Jönsson is on the bill as guitar player/keyboardist, Danish Daycare is about indie pop… However with a more certain amount of darkness, unveiling an unmistakable eighties herritage, where guitars and electronic webs of sound are woven together, inseparable it seems, in the most natural fashion.
