FACT mix 281, is a slamming live session by John Heckle, a Liverpool artist who’s fast-becoming the new great white hope for those who like their house and techno music heady, psychedelic and raw.
We’re yet to run a review of Heckle’s new album, The Second Son , but trust us when we say it’s a beauty. Released on Jamal ‘Hieroglyphic Being’ Moss’s Mathematics label, The Second Son is a glorious trip through rugged house, demented acid, tweaked ambient and at one point (the unforgettable ‘The Voyager’, which also features on this mix) peak-time disco. It’s heavily indebted to classic Chicago, of course, but more than that it plays out like an unstoppable stream of self-discovery from a musician immersed in various aspects of the past.
Heckle’s gone all out for his FACT mix, so we’ll let the man himself explain. “I’ve done a special live studio performance for you, using a [Roland TR-]707 in tap mode, a Roland Juno G, a Juno 106, an Alesis Microverb 4, a Roland SP-404 and a Mackie Profx12. Every track is sequenced live and includes live keys, and tracks are bridged live with short 707 drum solos [one thing you’ll notice about Heckle, he’s got a Hell of a way with those 707 toms]. Tracks performed include ‘What Once Was’, ‘Voyager’, ‘Life on Titan’, ‘Lunik (The Dream)’, ‘4th Dimension’, ‘Ahead of Time’ and ‘R136’, as well as some tracks yet to be released and a couple of untitled jams.”
Sounds pretty special, right? Wait ‘til you hear it. Trust us on this one, whether you’ve heard of John Heckle or not, give this mix a try. Fans of Kassem Mosse, Omar-S, Hieroglyphic Being or Phuture might well find a new hero.
Tracklist:

Right in time for the weekend we are happy to present this week's zero" podcast and it is one of our finest so far, coming from Dutch techno stalwart Aroy Dee.
In loose association with the Delsin camp Aroy has been running his M>O>S imprint for many years now, holding up the flag for deep and raw Detroit-style techno on the Dutch west coast.
Artists who have appeared on M>O>S include Morphosis, Legowelt, Gerd, D'Marc Cantu, yet Aroy Dee himself has been responsible for most of his label's output.
His productions - also as part of the R-A-G crew together with G-String and Marco Spaventi - have further been released on Rush Hour, Delsin and NWAQ and have consistently been exploring the field between deep and drifting techno and the jacking analogue house the Netherlands have become famous for.
Aroy Dee's podcast features both US and European, classic and contemporary interpretations of his particular style of house music: From warm and pad-heavy tracks by him and like-minded artists such as Redshape, Newworldaquarium and Kassem Mosse to authentic Chicago bangers from Trax Records and DJ International.

For the hundredth episode of DJBroadcast weekly podcast was something special happen. In our view there is no better candidate than the man who helped the phenomenon seriously content for web radio: Ferenc van der Sluijs aka IF. In 2003, his Cybernatic Broadcasting System (CBS) was launched, one of the first Internet radio stations. It made a Hague international hub for neglected genres like electro and italo. Two years ago, CBS made room for Intergalactic FM. Who wants to know which tracks the listener Ferenc has selected, his podcast listening watch at all. At the end he mentions the acts and games titles. Saturday, April 24 IF will provide a lecture during the Red Bull Music Academy Info Sessions at the Sugar Factory.
electro and acid and whatever, the tracklist was put together in a hurry so occasionally I just list the EP rather than the track title, you'll live I'm sure.

For our first podcast of 2010 I’m proud to present one of the finest DJs around - Traxx. For me, he embodies the true spirit of dance music - raw, unbridled energy and the unrelenting ability to play great records that you’ve never heard before. His Nation imprint, and work alongside the likes of James T Cotton keeps the analogue side of house alive, and his Chicago heritage means that the weird, early 80’s proto-industrial and synthpop sits nicely with the more hypnotic elements of acid and what he terms “jak beat”. This is an old recording and there’s no tracklist, but hope you enjoy it.
